My family and I had an impromptu trip to the mangrove forests at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Each of us are geared with our own equipments, water bottle and insect repellant. My insect repellant spray was made of essential oils (geranium, neem, eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary) and witch hazel toner. Lately I have been conscious of the products that I used and tried to ensure that it is natural and environmental-friendly.
We’re going on a crocodile hunt! We’re gonna catch a big one! What a beautiful day! But we’re not scared!
We’re so determined to shoot one, no matter the size…. You do know that I am talking about photography right? But sadly the tide was high and we caught no glimpse of it. Instead, we found lots of spiders, herons and monitor lizards. The mangrove forests borders along fresh water and salt water. It was a pleasant walk indeed. You can smell the saltiness in the air depending on which side of the trail you turn your head to.

If you do not know, Singapore has such a humid climate. So, it is always important to keep yourself hydrated.

I keep emphasising to my family members to each bring a water bottle and umbrella in case it rains. The weather can be a bit unpredictable. For that, my younger brothers teased me for sounding like a teacher. Well, I WAS an Early Years teacher. It did not rain, though. And I managed to get everyone to drink some water despite them not wanting to at first. It was because I filled my bottle with lots of ice.

Guess it became a habit because back then, I always ensure that my children’s water bottle are refilled before they go home. Sadly their parents took it that their children did not drink enough water.

*Sungei Buloh was opened in 1993 and was Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park. It opens from 7 AM to 7 PM daily. For more details, check out their website. They do organise guided tours and events for FREE. If you are in Singapore and happen to be a nature lover or bird enthusiast, do visit!
The pictures are amazing! But I can just feel the mosquitoes already.
